No, I did not. I hate children, I hate heat, I really hate humidity and I hate sitting in the car for 16 hours when my leg started to kill me after 20 minutes in the car because I can't fully straighten it (I'm over 4 feet tall, after all). It was all just a bad bad situation to me. I'm also sick to death of my family and was hoping they'd leave without me, but... >_>

I... Had a stupid moment. I was messing around with my brother at the Waffle House for lunch Sunday before last and I kicked him under the table due to the fact that he was annoying me. Unfortunately, I kicked the post holding the table up. The solid metal table post was kicked a lot harder than I'd intended to.

I was fine till we actually got home. Then it hurt. Badly. I thought my leg was gonna fall off. >_>

Eh, I'm fine with no cookies. I'll sit over here and eat my Pop-Tarts and maybe a couple souls of small children since I'm pretty hungry...

Brick.

Most people would be inclined to say a duck but that's not in the riddle.

But the riddle does not say what the sculpture is made of only what would it be, and even though the bricks are ground up they are not changed chemically so it's still brick.

Happy birthday to our forum admin Slayer.

I believe 17. Wow where do the years go. I remember when he was 12. When it puts things into light my own eldest son is now 12. In the same amount of time he will be rounding off the corners on my truck.

This 4+ years has been formative for a number of reasons. Various people have grown from middle schoolers to graduating high school. My kids have grown and we even added 1 along that time.

World events and so many other things. It's nice to know we still have a couple of these forums to refer to and kind of touch base.

I've probably got the least changed life in the 4 years or so. But then again age 34 and 38 are not all that much different.

Well I get more holidays off from work than I did before lol. More of the old guard retired making my seniority that I can have those days off most holidays. 19 years I've had that job. Exactly half my life.

The important thing is to say happy birthday to our friend and admin Slayer and really hope things are going well to our friend across 2 oceans. Happy birthday.

Free food?!?!?! Being a fat guy you just unlocked the combination. What a jip that they didn't do that now. I think the party concept would have been interesting just to see how that goes. Don't take this the wrong way but it's almost like hearing that they're offering a new series of Reese hitches so me and a few other guys with trucks go to a party to celebrate that.

Off subject, I had someone steal the hitch right off my truck once while it was parked at my work. Isn't that nice?

Haha, actually this is the first I've ever heard of a party celebrating a Linux release =P
And you'd really need to be into Linux to get excited about it; most people aren't.

The party will probably be more of a LAN party if anything.. meaning we'll be playing video games haha.
But hey, free food! Can't beat that xD

And you don't have to buy Linux, it's free in every sense of the word.
Free to download, use, modify, rerelease... pretty much to do whatever you want with it.

And so far Kubuntu 9.10 is holding up to expectations ^^

I'll let you guys know how the party goes. It's tonight at 6 PM until.
It's only 1:45 here now, so I've a while yet before it starts.

Scratch that, I've decided not to go.
There turned out to not be any free food D:
McDonald's, here I come!

They actually have parties for this? Outstanding. I guess I really am old hat to not feel the full impact of it.

I really don't get all the computer terminology but I'm pretty sure you're saying that the latest in technology is finally available to buy and you have gotten it or you are getting it, and now there's a celebration party.

Good news is always worth knowing so congratulations. I hope it lives upto expectations.

Woop woo.
Ubuntu 9.10 was released to the general public today!
I'm a proud new owner of Kubuntu 9.10, the KDE version of Ubuntu (Ubuntu normally comes with GNOME desktop manager, not KDE).

Boy that's a lot of linkage.

Anyways.
To those of you who don't know, these are distributions (distro's) of the free, open source operating system, Linux.

I won't go into too much detail on Linux, as I'm sure the links will tell you enough if you're interested.

If you stop by the Post Your Desktop thread, you can see my old setup on Linux Mint, which is an Ubuntu-based Linux operating system.

And to celebrate the new Ubuntu, I'll be heading to a release party tomorrow night (October 30). How geeky of me ^^;

Thanks. I did not have a choice. Well had there been a major personal emergency I could get out of things like that. But basically they have a term called 'the list' and if you're on the list you're going to be stuck with something.

Some guys in my company were sent to the New Orleans area during the Hurricane Katrina clean up. I was not sent. I did have to attend a train derailment repair crew in Kentucky about a year and a half ago.

I do get sent to Baltimore somewhat often. Washington DC at least twice a year.

Thats' all you can really do. I can't get to the forums I enjoy every single day either. I'd participate more but I'm such a poor graphics guy that I can't make a logo or a cartoon comic or I would participate more at that.

The most I could do is once Slayer suggested a video so I made a video of something I fabricated to fit some shelving on a room in my house and found some paint that matched my wife's green cabinet that the shelves were being placed on.

That is.. epic cool.

I'm happy with the monitor I have now (lappy yay!), but I'd prefer either something teensy like a netbook, or large like yours.

Netbook screens = awesome for teensy factor.
Epic widescreens = yay horizontal real estate.

Aye. Especially with school back up.
I'm online nearly all day now, but most of that time is spent doing work for college.

The time that I do have free I spend either playing guitar or keeping my room in shape. Not to mention I've got to keep my fridge stocked =P
I try to get on AaG as much as possible though.

This could go in general chat but there hasn't been much to discuss lately so I'm taking the liberty of starting a new thread. If that's in correct I'm sorry.

Well I wasnt' here last week because I got bluntly sent away for a week with work. I came in to to work on my overnight shift on Sunday Oct 11 and I get greeted with 'Ostrotkiewicz, you're on the list.'

That means my crew and I were being sent to Baltimore for the week.

So instead of working locally we were put on a train to Baltimore and we worked Monday through Thursday on daytime shift to replace windows, benches and some fixtures on a waiting station in Baltimore.

So that's why none of the forums saw me last week.

'Bratlings' that's a good term.

I actually like to hand out treats and see the costumes kids make or buy. it interests me I guess.

Some costumes are very creative while others are just out of the box outfits but they're all kind of neat in a way.

 Soldat [AaG] Clan Server
« Result #58 on Oct 10, 2009, 5:16am »
[Quote]

I've rented a private server over at EnEsCe to be open for the next four weeks.

Currently only two players are allowed at any given time (not including spectators). If things become crowded, I may add extra players as I see fit. The server is currently also password protected. If you'd like to play, PM for the pass. It's probably a good idea to place a clan tag like [AaG] or |AaG| etc in your playername, but it isn't a requirement.

As I'm the server admin, I reserve the right to kick and ban players, refuse access to matches, etc so no drama! Games are for having fun!

If you don't know what Soldat is, but you're interested, click here to find out more.

Server Info
Lobby Name: [AaG] Clan Server
IP: 72.232.225.68
Port: 23097
Gamemode: Deathmatch, but subject to change if demand calls for it.
Weapons Allowed: All.
Bots: The Phil
Survival: No, this makes no sense with the few players here.
Realistic: From time to time; again, this is a demand thing.
Advanced: No, but if demand is high enough I suppose...

UPDATE: In honor of our probably most active member, I've added a single bot: The Phil. If you want a match without The Phil, just ask me to kick him. If I'm not around you can probably vote him out with whomever you're playing with.

Half? I get online three times a week for a few hours, as opposed to the 20/7 I was doing before.

>_>

Also, real-time update: My sister, yet again, needs to be stabbed many times. It has a friend over and is, quite obviously, talking about me. Even more obviously, when I'm not there.

My plans for Halloween... Well, more like plans for Trick or Treat night.

I /may/ have a hockey game that night but if I don't my plans involve dressing up as Orochi and hiding in the bushes in our front garden and jumping out and scaring small kids sh*tless.

My dad's caused some emotional scars already with the neighborhood bratlings. I feel like being nice and making it worse for them...

Halloween might have a lot of attention from everybody worldwide. I am not sure. Here in the United States it is as it has always been in my lifetime 1 of the most enjoyed days and seasons of the year. Carving pumpkins, making spooky or fun art work is always right up there for enjoyment.

My 6 year old son is so excited about a Halloween party that is not for another couple weeks but he is trying on his costume a few times a day.

Spirit is a good thing. I'm sure being a site of Artists and Gamerz, Halloween is a fun time for everybody here too.

Yeah, wouldn't surprise me at this time of year.

Everyone's back in school, and it's still pretty close to the start of the year so everyone's free time is being crapped on quite hard.

I know Adam's had to drop his online time massively, for example. Down to well under half what he was getting in the summer.

And me? I'm just sick, is all. Sleeping a hell of a lot.

Crystal, however, is fubar and corrupts the save file for no reason after the GBA being off for two hours. Guess what's going back to the store this weekend? <_<

AMC Eagle haven't seen 1 of those out my way in years. They all rotted to bits in Pennsylvania. In California you probably have more cars last longer because of better weather.

I have my 87 Silverado my father bought it new and sold it to me when it was about 3 years old so I had it from age 20 to about 31 or whatever. It was destroyed when it got hit at a curb. It happened in the end of 2002 so I got the 2003 Chevy that is in my YouTube blogs. Last october that got hit by a motorhome and that's the only reason I have a new truck now. I would otherwise have kept it until it wears out. I plan to keep this 1 for as long as possible. That's the best way to get your money's worth.

Well, it's school holidays again, which makes it happy fun WoW addict time for me. I've been making some good progress on my Blood Elf, and created a Draenei hunter for fun earlier today. Surprisingly I don't really like the race or the class as much as I'd expected (WoW archery system is so close to utter crap it's not funny), but god-DAMN I like their Russian accents =P

Also, I've been playing Solitare on my iPod a lot lately. Yes, I'm hooked on the idea of winning one out of about every twelve games in order to make a small amount of imaginary money. Go figure.

I think the arcade section is very cool. And creative.

If I was better at computer drawing I would enter the banner contest. I'm not too good at making computer pages. If you needed an actual wall built I'm your man but I'm just not a graphics man, sorry.

I have always appreciated the works done by members of this forum I hope they'll participate more in those aspects.

Essentially, the board width on all pages is supposed to horizontally resize to 728 pixels, the width of our banner. I inserted a code to do this about two years ago. A few months after configuring the code, ProBoards updated their systems. As a result of the update, one of our other codes had to be reconfigured to conform to the new system. After reconfiguring this code, the resize no longer worked, and the main page returned to the default relative resize setting which is, I believe, 70% of the monitor's horizontal resolution. I tried to fix this at the time, failed, and finally got it working now. Hence this update.

I wasn't aware of the trouble but I will vote good because making something right whenever possible is a good idea. In my 19 years in repairs and services I'm sure a lot of people didn't realize some of the things I've fixed were broken but it makes me know I did something useful anyway if it can be made right.

For those of you who haven't read the latest news fader entry, I am pleased to announce that the board resize code (which has been glitched since we upgraded to the latest version of ProBoards sometime last year) has finally been fixed. Apparantly I managed to screw up part of the code when I copied the updated Ultimate Info Center script in. At any rate, it's fixed now, so hopefully this makes a positive change to the appearance of the site.

In related news, please take the time to check out the Arcade section of the site. All the old, now defunct, games have been cleaned out and replaced with shiny new ones. If you're looking to kill some time, go have a look- click the Arcade icon next to the Logout button on the top menu bar to access it. I'll be continuing to work on this particular area in future too, so stay tuned.

Finally, on a totally unrelated note, I'd like to take the time to once again remind all members that the Banner Contest is still open, and will not close until we get at least two entries. Check it out here.

Cheers,
Slayer

Before the door opened, Yado said simply, “Thanks, Yas’. Catch you whenever you’re here next… Or whenever the kid croaks, whichever happens first.” He managed to finish his sentence before the doors shut behind Yasu.

Kelsey was almost dead on her feet, she realized suddenly. She swayed violently and Yado grabbed her before she fell. “I’m… Tired, Yado… Can we go home? I have practice tomorrow…” she murmured. Yado smiled slightly, and picked her up and carried her back to their apartment. Her soul reentered her body, which was blacked out on her bed, and she yelped in pain but fell asleep quickly, school uniform and all. Yado sighed, took off his glasses and changed into his pajamas, before staggering into his room, climbing onto his own bed and dropping off almost as fast as his foster daughter.

The night passed quickly for both of them as they slept soundly, and it had already been about 1 AM by the time they got home. Yado slept dreamlessly during his catnap, but Kelsey’s dreams were haunted with an odd man with long white hair but looked far too young for it, who she could never recollect having seen before…. She had almost decided in her dream that this was a memory but she jerked awake, sharply, at 5 AM sharp, when her alarm, also known as her current Papa Roach ring tone on her cell phone, went off. She promptly forgot her dream and tried to fall back to sleep. Yado was already up, dressed and tying a tie while throwing together some breakfast in the kitchen. He roared, “UP, Otomeza. Get up. I know yesterday was long and you’re going to hurt like all hell today, but we can’t explain to your school why you’re sleeping all day, can we? Get your ass up, go shower. ”

Kelsey gave an almost inaudible groan of pain and limped out of bed and into the bathroom. Strictly to spite Yado, she took an hour and a half long shower while Yado ducked in and grabbed her uniform and washed and dried it. She surfaced from the shower in a beaten up Motley Crue t-shirt and a pair of long, beaten knit shorts. Yado called, “Kels, I’m off to work… You have some people outside waiting for you, specifically a Mr. Yasutora Sado, so get your tired sore and beaten ass dressed and go. I’ll talk to you later and there’s some caffeine in the fridge… Don’t take the caffeine pills, you have practice later.” Kelsey grunted loudly and Yado snorted, “Love you too, kid. Have a good day, Kels.”

He hesitated and said quietly after a minute, “You did very well yesterday… When the time comes, you will be one hell of a Soul Reaper. I’ll take you out for more training when we get home tonight, all right? Take care of yourself today…” Kelsey blinked in shock and said equally quietly, “Thanks, Yado… I promise, I won’t let you down… Or Yasu.” Yado smiled slightly and ruffled her hair, and ordered, “Get dressed. Now. You’ll be late and a couple of your friends were screaming like women downstairs.” She grinned and Yado headed for the door. Sounds of him speaking to a few kids drifted down from the first floor as Kelsey got dressed, quickly.

Kelsey, however, had been too tired to remember everything Yado had said. Particularly the part about not taking the caffeine pills. She grabbed her usual two pill dose, and two 24 ounce bottles of Dr. Pepper, throwing the bottle of pills in her bag for later and a two liter of Mountain Dew Code Red in her hockey equipment bag. After haphazardly stuffing things away, she grabbed her standard tie, snapped a wristband with skull studs on her left wrist, crammed a beaten up terrycloth wristband on her right, the first pair of earrings she could find in her ears (with a mutter of, “Eat me, piercings, you are not closing on me today”) and fastened a belt with a Papa Roach buckle around her waist and dashed for the door. With a call of, “Hey dudes, sorry I’m running late,” she took the stairs three at a time and slammed the door behind her as she and her friends headed for school.

Kelsey downed the first Dr. Pepper on the way there. She hesitated, but had a feeling that today would be a day to make things known, and hesitantly took the hand of Chad on the way there. The two tended to hang back at the end of their group anyways, so nobody noticed her try. Chad seemed surprised, but didn’t object or pull away. Kelsey blinked at him in shock, he blinked back. They half smiled at each other, and kept walking like that until they got to school, at which point the rest of their group headed in, and Kelsey attempted to follow, but Chad held her back, and held her against him, tightly. Kelsey glanced up at him in pure shock, and he kissed her, hesitatingly. Kelsey responded, until the bell rang. She noticed Chad seemed worried about something and she told him, surprisingly gently, “I’ll see you after practice, Yasutora… Same as always. Get to class, man. I have American History this period and they never miss me anyways, if I’m late. They’re not teaching me anything I didn’t already know anyways.” She somewhat shyly touched his cheek, just because she could. He hugged her again, tighter, gave her one surprisingly passionate kiss, whispered something in her ear, and headed for class.

Kelsey stood there for a second, a bit of a blush on her cheeks, and suddenly a grin spread across her face and she opened the second Dr. Pepper and drained it quickly. And she didn’t stop grinning as she sidled into her classroom after shoving her equipment bag into her locker.

The teacher, her hockey coach, blinked at her entrance and said simply, “Otomeza, where were you?” Kelsey blinked, grinned, and said apologetically, “Sorry, sir. I was up extremely late watching an NHL game last night… I screamed at the TV too much, punched walls and woke up and I felt like I’d been hit by Mike Commodore,” casually inserting the name of one of the largest Blue Jackets players into conversation to throw the rest of the class off of her trail, “and then run over by an angry pregnant rhinoceros.” His lips twitched in a smirk, and he said simply, “They lost that badly?” “Worse,” she replied tersely, “It was 8-1 at the end of the night.” The coach winced and he said with a sigh, “My condolences. Take your seat, please?” She nodded and apologized again before drifting into the her desk at the back of the room. The teacher said simply “All right, today we’ll be covering the American Civil War. Causes of the American Civil War included, what, Minamoto?”

Kelsey tuned basically everything out after that and drew band logos on her notes. She responded if a question was asked to her directly, and she answered them correctly, but she passed the class in a slight haze of exhaustion, pain and surprisingly, happiness.

She had never been so happy to hear the bell ring for second period, and as she stood up, her coach called, “Otomeza, a word.” She blinked and turned, realizing she felt a bit shaky as she did so. “Yessir?” she said, ignoring the shakiness. She’d just take care of that when she hit her locker next… “Your free period at the end of the day? Practice starts early. Everyone somehow managed to get a free period at the end of the day this semester, call it luck or whatever, but sixth period, you’ll be on the ice.” Kelsey’s eyes lit up and she nodded eagerly, before dashing to her locker and ingesting some of the Mountain Dew. Oddly, the shaking got a bit worse. She ignored it, but decided she probably shouldn’t take any more caffeine for now, and ran to her next class.

She sat through that, and the next one, and the next one. Finally, at the end of a biology class, Kelsey was shaking to the point where she almost passed out. She headed for her locker, hefted her bag, and slid two caffeine pills out and took them with Mountain Dew. The shaking stopped again, and she got to the rink OK. The Mountain Dew was almost gone. That was a bit worrying… However, she ducked into the locker room, changed and came out. She glanced around the rink and noticed a few of her friends had ducked out of class and were sitting in the rink, including, she noted happily, Chad.

Warmups went fine, skating drills went perfectly, but things got very bad very fast when a team scrimmage happened.

Kelsey suddenly started shaking like a hypothermia patient, and the coach didn’t realize. Nor did she try and stop playing. She was close to the net of the opposing ‘team’ and tried to steal the puck from a defenseman…

But she slipped, hard. And he didn’t stop. His skate sliced the jugular of the shaking, collapsed Kelsey Otomeza, and the coach froze, hard. He cried out, “Someone call an ambulance, her jugular was sliced, it’s a true emergency!” Kelsey managed to move a bit, and Chad wordlessly freaked out. He yanked open the door on to the ice and dropped to his knees beside Kelsey, pulling her head gently onto his lap, disregarding the blood. She smiled gently and took his hand.

She said weakly, “Thank you, Yasutora, for being here, and for everything… I don’t think the ambulance is gonna make it in time… I’m glad I had the balls to act today. I have no regrets now, apart from having to leave you. I’m sorry we didn’t even get this off the ground because I’m such a coward… And I… Never responded earlier. I love you, too. I’ll see you on the other side, when the time comes… If I find someone there half as amazing as you, I’ll be content. I… I’m… Sorry, Yasutora… Be happy, for… Me as well as… You… “ He nodded swiftly, lifted her up gently and kissed her. She responded as best as she could and he placed her head on his chest. She was right, the ambulance wasn’t going to get there in time. She smiled softly as her breathing slowed, and her eyes closed slowly. She truly was dying happy, she thought, and she’ll get to see her mother again... The last thing she was conscious of while still alive was hearing Chad’s heartbeat and feeling him breathe and shudder a few times… It was soothing… Relaxing. She shut her eyes, and drifted off….

Next thing she was fully aware of, she was floating far out of the way of the scene downstairs. Up in the rafters, by the scoreboard, in fact, and in her Soul Reaper uniform, with her zanpaku-to at her hip.

She blinked but sat on the edge of the Jumbotron and watched the paramedics run in, frantically, with a stretcher. Yado was close behind, and blanched at the sheer amount of blood on the ice, as well as on Chad and the look on his face… He noticed her up on the jumbotron but pretended she wasn’t there as it would be odd if he began speaking to invisible people.

It was odd, she reflected, toying with the hilt of one of her katanas, seeing them clean up after her own death. She noted the freshman whose skate had been the reason she was gone. Kid was a mess, she thought ruefully. If she could, at some point, she’d let him know it wasn’t his fault. Ideally, before it ruined his ability to play.

“Dude’s good, and it would be a waste to let him stop playing due to a freak accident,” she commented out loud, in English. She really had no regrets apart from that. She died knowing people cared for her, and that she would be
